# Record Your First Meeting

> A step-by-step guide to recording, transcribing, and summarizing your first meeting with Mavio.

This guide walks you through recording your very first meeting with Mavio. By the end, you will have a full transcript, an AI-generated summary, and a list of action items -- all without taking a single note.

## Before you begin

You will need:

* A Mavio account ([sign up free](https://mavioapp.com/signup))
* An upcoming meeting on Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams (or any audio source if using the desktop app)

## Recording your first meeting

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in to Mavio">
    Open the Mavio dashboard at [app.mavioapp.com](https://app.mavioapp.com) and sign in with your email or Google account. If this is your first time, you will see the onboarding wizard.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a recording method">
    Mavio gives you four ways to capture meetings. Choose the one that fits your situation:

    | Method | How it works | Best for |
    | --------------------- | --------------------------------------- | --------------------------- |
    | **Meeting bot** | Mavio joins your call as a participant | Zoom, Google Meet, Teams |
    | **Desktop app** | Captures system audio on your computer | Any app, webinars, podcasts |
    | **Browser extension** | Records directly in Chrome              | Browser-based meetings      |
    | **Mobile app**        | Records through your phone's microphone | In-person meetings          |

    For the fastest start, use the **meeting bot** -- it requires no installation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start recording">
    **Using the meeting bot:** Go to the Mavio dashboard, click **Record now**, and paste your meeting link. The Mavio Notetaker bot will join your call within 30 seconds.

    **Using the desktop app:** Open Mavio on your desktop, click the record button in the menu bar, and select your audio source. See the [desktop app guide](/documentation/apps/desktop-app) for details.

    <Tip>Enable **auto-join** in Settings > Recording to have Mavio join all future calendar meetings automatically.</Tip>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Let the meeting happen naturally">
    Once recording starts, Mavio works silently in the background. Speak normally -- the AI handles speaker identification, timestamps, and noise filtering. You can pause or stop the recording at any time from the dashboard or tray icon.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review your notes">
    After the meeting ends, Mavio processes the recording in two to five minutes. Navigate to **Meetings** in your dashboard to find:

    * **Full transcript** -- every word with speaker labels and timestamps
    * **AI summary** -- key topics, decisions, and takeaways in a concise format
    * **Action items** -- tasks extracted from the conversation with assignees when mentioned
    * **Playback** -- listen to the recording with the transcript synced to audio
  </Step>

  <Step title="Share or export">
    Click **Share** to send the meeting notes to attendees via email or a shareable link. You can also push notes to [Slack](/guides/setup-slack-notifications), [Notion](/guides/export-to-notion), or your CRM.
  </Step>
</Steps>
