# Translation

> Translate meeting transcripts and summaries into 40+ languages with one click.

Mavio can translate your meeting transcripts and summaries into any of its supported languages. This makes it easy to share meeting notes with international teammates, clients, or stakeholders who speak different languages.

## How translation works

Translation in Mavio is powered by large language models that understand conversational context, industry terminology, and meeting-specific language. Unlike generic machine translation, Mavio's translations preserve the meaning of business discussions, technical terms, and speaker intent.

## Translating a transcript

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the meeting">
    Navigate to the meeting you want to translate.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Translate">
    In the transcript view, click the **Translate** button (globe icon) in the toolbar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the target language">
    Choose the language you want to translate into from the dropdown.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the translation">
    The translated transcript appears alongside the original. Toggle between the original and translated versions using the language tabs.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  You can translate both the transcript and the summary independently. Translate the summary for a quick overview and only translate the full transcript when needed.
</Tip>

## Supported languages

Mavio supports translation between any pair of its 40+ supported languages. Common translation pairs include:

| Source   | Target                                                         | Notes                                        |

| German | English, French, Dutch | High accuracy |
| Any | Any | Supported — accuracy varies by language pair |

### Translation quality

Translation quality is highest between widely-spoken languages with abundant training data. Less common language pairs may have slightly lower fluency but the meaning is preserved accurately.

## Automatic translation

Set up automatic translation so every meeting is translated without manual action:

1. Go to **Settings > AI > Translation**.
2. Toggle **Auto-translate** to on.
3. Select the target language(s). You can choose up to three languages.
4. Choose what to translate: **Summary only**, **Transcript only**, or **Both**.

Auto-translated content appears in the meeting detail alongside the original, ready for immediate review.

<Note>
  Automatic translation is available on Pro, Team, and Enterprise plans. Free plan users can translate manually with a limited number of translations per month.
</Note>

## Translation for summaries

Summaries can be translated independently from transcripts:

1. Open the meeting and go to the **Summary** tab.
2. Click the **Translate** button.
3. Select the target language.
4. The translated summary is generated within seconds.

Translated summaries maintain the same structure as the original — overview, key topics, decisions, action items, and open questions — all in the target language.

## Sharing translated content

When you share a meeting via link or email, you can choose which language version to share:

* **Original only** — recipients see the original language
* **Translated only** — recipients see the translated version
* **Both** — recipients can toggle between languages

This is particularly useful for cross-regional teams where meeting participants speak different languages.

## Cross-language search

Mavio AI supports cross-language search. You can ask questions in one language about meetings that were conducted in another:

* Ask in English: "What did the Tokyo team discuss about the product roadmap?"
* Mavio AI searches Japanese-language meetings and returns the answer in English.

This works in both the Mavio AI chat and the transcript search.
